NEW TO VAPING?

What is Vaping?

Vaping is the term given to using an electronic cigarette or personal vaporizer. Someone who uses traditional tobacco cigarettes is a “smoker” and they “smoke” cigarettes, someone who uses an e-cigarette is a “vaper” and they “vape” their e-cigarette or personal vaporizer.

Hopefully the below image helps explain:

ANATOMY OF AN E-CIGARETTE

Vapor devices use a lithium battery to heat a wire coil. A wick is used to draw e-liquid to the coil. When the e-liquid is heated by the coil is vaporizes and can then be inhaled in a similar fashion to smoking.

Atomiser

This heat resistant part houses one or more resistance wire coils and its wick(s) often with some form of reservoir to hold e-liquid. There are many different styles with different names such as atomizers, clearomizers, cartomizers, tanks etc., but they all do the same thing.

THREADS? What the????

Okay, so the most common thread (or screw type) is the 510 thread. We recommend only buying an e-cigarette or vape that uses the 510 thread, otherwise you are stuck with just using that one brand for replacements (think micro USB connector for Samsung and majority of brands, versus Apple's "lightning" connector, which means you're stuck with Apple).

Any ego type battery can use ego AND 510 thread atomisers. All ego batteries ARE 510 thread. But the ego (external) thread was created to hide some of the battery parts. So if you have an ego type battery you can use any atomiser as long as it is 510 thread.

But 510 only batteries can only use 510 thread atomisers. Hopefully the below images help explain.

See how the 510 only threading doesn't have the below ego threading? Typically the 510 threading only is for bigger vaporisers/vapes.

Again, we are here to help if you ever get confused, just send us an email, any time and about anything.

Batteries

This is the most crucial part of the device. It supplies power. Devices use replaceable or non-replaceable internal batteries. We only sell eGo type batteries that have non-replaceable internal batteries as it is simpler and we think safer.

What is mAh in batteries?

An Milliamp Hour(mAh) is a unit for measuring electric power over time. mAh is commonly used to describe the total amount of energy a battery can store at one time. It's the easiest way to distinguish the strength or capacity of a battery. The higher the mAh, the longer the battery will last.

The majority of starter kits have 650mAh or 900mAh batteries. We think that's a waste of time as you're constantly having to charge the battery. So the batteries in our starter kits START at 1100mAh and go up to 5000mAh.

E-Juice or E-Liquid

e-Juice is the flavored liquid that will be heated to produce the vapor you inhale. There are hundreds of flavors to choose from.

E-Juice is a solution consisting of propylene glycol (PG), vegetable glycerin (VG), food flavorings, and sometimes nicotine. This liquid can come in a variety of PG/VG ratios and nicotine strengths. Typically most cigarette smokers switching to e-cigarettes will start using high nicotine juices and move towards lower strength juices over time. It is common for most people to start out using strengths as high as 18mg/ml but often will soon switch to 12mg/ml  or 8mg/ml e-liquids for their improved flavor (as nicotine content drops flavor increases).

What are PG and VG?

  • PG and VG are the odourless liquids that are combined with flavour and nicotine to create e-juice.

  • They produce vapour when heated, which allow them to be inhaled.

  • The two fluids have a different consistency to each other, and also have a slightly different taste.

  • They have distinct mouth and throat sensations when vaped.

  • They are both used in a variety of medical, food and personal care products.

  • Most modern e-liquid uses a combination of the two fluids, though the ratio can vary dramatically.

PG:

The fluid has no odour or colour, and is less viscous than VG. In vaping it is used to provide a ‘throat hit’, which some users claim is similar to the sensation experienced when smoking tobacco. It also carries flavour more effectively than VG, meaning it’s the most commonly used suspension fluid for flavour concentrates and nicotine.

Throat Hit – If you enjoy a sharp throat hit when vaping then you’ll prefer a high PG vape. The ‘kick’ at the back of the throat, is something many ex-smokers crave, and PG (along with the nicotine) provides more of this than VG. PG carries flavour marginally better than VG, so the flavour will be slightly improved.

VG:

It is commonly used in e-liquid to give a ‘thick’ sensation to vapour. VG has a slightly sweet taste and is considerably thicker than PG. The increased thickness of VG means it can reduce the life of atomisers quicker than PG-based juice. High VG liquids clog up coils more rapidly, and will not work well, if at all, in certain tanks.

Do you know what is in your E-Liquid?

Make sure you are getting e-liquids with no nasty ingredients.

All Purple Wolf E-Liquids pass USA FDA and EU TPD quality requirements.

The EU Tobacco Products Directive (TPD) is a set of laws governing all nicotine-containing products in the European Union. All e-liquids must be submitted for chemical analysis and toxicological tests.

The USA FDA Electronic Nicotine Delivery Systems (ENDS) regulations require all ingredients and flavourings in e-liquid to be submitted for approval.

USING E-CIGARETTES

How do I fill my atomizer/clearomizer/tank?

To get the biggest variety of flavors, and the best value for your buck, you fill up your own atomizers with quality e-juice.

If you have any questions do not hesitate to send us a question via email, we are more than happy to help.

  • Atomisers/tanks are either top fill or bottom fill - i.e. you unscrew the bottom and fill upside down from the bottom or you unscrew the top and fill from the top. Top fill tanks are way easier and less messy to use.

  • Always fill e-juice against the wall of the atomizer, avoid the center tube.

  • Do not fill past the max line.

  • Let the e-juice soak in for a few minutes after filling before you use it.

  • It’s a good idea to have a few backup tanks/coils just in case.

Do I Have to Replace my Battery?

Yes, yes you will. Same as with any rechargeable battery. When? That’s the real question. There’s really no way to tell how long a battery is going to last for, it all depends on the individual, on how often it is used, how often it is charged, and how it is cared for. Most batteries last between at least 6 to 12 months, depending on use.

We only sell batteries and brands we have personally tested and use and have found to be reliable. They should last at least 6 – 12 months, depending on usage. If any battery you have purchased from us has lasted less than 3 months please let us know ASAP as we should be able to provide you with a replacement battery.

We recommend to have at least 2 batteries, so you can use one while the other is charging, and so you never get caught without, whether it just goes flat or dies. We recommend to always keep e-juice and a spare battery and clearomizer/atomizer on you at all times.

MAIN COSTS OF E-CIGARETTES

The main costs you will have with e-cigarettes is the e-juice you use and clearomizers/atomizers.

It all depends how much you vape. With e-juice it is obvious, but with clearomizers/atomizers they have a shelf life too. The flavours in the e-juice do start clogging up the wicks and you can end up with a “burnt” taste after a while. They should typically last you 1 – 4 weeks depending on your usage.

Tips to help prolong life of clearomizers/atomizers:

  • For Evod and 16S clearomisers only (not sub-ohm tanks): If you start getting a “burnt” taste you can unscrew the atomizer and put the wick section in boiling water for a few minutes, stir it around a bit, then rinse it out and let dry. Once dry you can reassemble the atomizer and get a bit more life out of it.

  • Darker e-juices (such as vanilla and some tobacco flavours) tend to “clog” up atomizers quicker. If you find you are not getting as good a “draw” out of your e-cig or it is starting to taste burnt after a while, switch to a pale coloured e-juice to prolong the life of the atomiser, or do the above.

  • Store e-juices in the fridge where possible (e.g. carry a small 10ml bottle with you and refill from your big bottle from the fridge) as heat and sun exposure can start deteriorating the e-juice and start making it thicker and darker in colour, which then clogs the atomizer.

  • Never vape until your tank is empty and dries out.
